The Castle Hotel
Market Square
Bishops Castle
Shropshire
SY9 5BN

Bishop’s Castle is situated in the unspoilt South West corner of Shropshire, about 20 miles south of Shrewsbury,  18 miles west of Ludlow, and right on the border with Wales. It is about 1.5 hours drive from Birmingham, about 2 hours from Manchester and Bristol, and about 4 hours from London. The hotel is at the top of the high street, at the northern end of the town. You can’t miss it!

Approaching From The South East (M54, Birmingham, Shrewsbury, A5)

Follow the M54 motorway to Telford and then the A5 round Shrewsbury. At one of the many roundabouts on the outskirts of Shrewsbury take a left turning south signed A488 to Bishops Castle (20 miles).

If you are approaching Birmingham on the M6 or M40/M42 during the rush-hour (4.00pm -7.00pm) we strongly urge you to use the M6 toll road around Birmingham (around £4.00). Come onto it at J4 from the M6 or J7a from the M42. Leave the toll at its northern end at T8, and follow the A460 south to connect with the M54 at J1. Do not stay on the toll until it finishes and joins the M6 as you cannot get onto the M54 travelling south.

Approaching From The North Or North-West (Manchester/Liverpool/Chester/North Wales)

Head south from Chester down the A483 signed Wrexham, onto the A5 to Oswestry and then back onto the A483 to Welshpool. Then follow A490 to Churchstoke and then follow signs to Bishops Castle.

Approaching From The South (M5, Bristol, Worcester, Hereford, Ludlow)

Head for Ludlow and leave Ludlow on the A49 signed to Craven Arms. Just after Craven Arms turn left on the A489 signposted for Bishop’s Castle.

The Bedrooms

We have twelve lovely bedrooms, all en-suite, TV, pillows, sheets, all mod cons you see. And all suffused with that "away from it all" feeling. Some bedrooms have lovely views of the town and the surrounding hills, and others look out over the fabulous hotel gardens.

The Gardens

The gardens really are a feature in their own right. South facing, you gaze over the top of the little town to the big hills beyond, serenaded by the tinkling waterfall in the adjoining lily ponds. Have lunch in style on the extensive decking area with seating for over 50 guests, shaded by vine-covered arbours.
