Sunset over Bishops Castle

The Hotel

The Castle Hotel in Bishops Castle, Shropshire, has twelve delightful en-suite bedrooms, three bustling bars, a fine oak panelled restaurant and one of the finest hotel gardens in Shropshire. We also have a self-catering cottage to let, just across the square. And all suffused with that elusive “I’ve got away from it all” feeling. Situated in a quiet little edge-of-town square too, so no passing traffic! And while you are visiting why not try out one of our Shropshire Spa Hotel in-house treatments, where one of our team of professionally trained therapists will come to your room at a time of your choosing and treat you to one of our several holistic and cosmetic treatments. The Castle Hotel has been awarded Pet Friendly, Walker Friendly and Cyclist Friendly status.

But don’t just take our word for any of this:

This characterful hotel in Shropshire was built by Lord Carnarvon in 1719 on the site of the Bishop of Hereford’s original castle, conveniently situated between Shrewsbury and Ludlow, and the hotel still occupies an enviable and elevated position at the top of Bishops Castle town. Clive of India, one of Shropshire‘s finest sons, was one of the first landlords of The Castle Hotel! The hotel is over 300 years old. Each room is individually decorated with their own unique character. Some of our rooms have exposed beams or reduced ceiling heights in parts of the bedroom. When booking please enquire and we can give you a full run down of what room would be best for you.

But we no longer stand sentinel to the invading Welsh hoards, but rather provide food, drink and accommodation, and the most wonderful vantage point to view the surrounding Shropshire hills. Preferably with a glass of real ale in hand and the promise of dinner in the air. For Bishops Castle is to the bon viveur what Las Vegas is to the gambler – a Mecca, an Everest, Nirvana, the summit of human achievement!

Why? Because we have fantastic local produce, great food, great chefs, half a dozen micro-breweries in and around the town, and even a few vineyards! Need we say more?

We are a Pet friendly hotel and a dogs welcome hotel in Shropshire. Well behaved dogs are welcome. Cats are welcome upon request. Other pets must be mentioned upon booking. We are graded as a “Four Star Inn” by The AA.
