The visitor to Shropshire is spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing his tipple. Bishops Castle is blessed with The Three Tuns Brewery (The oldest licenced brewery in the country est: 1642) and several more within a few short miles. And at The Castle Hotel we stock a representative sample of these for your delectation. The town itself hosts a fantastic beer festival each year, when out come the marquees and barbecues, and joy is in the air.
We’re not just lovers of the amber nectar however – we also keep an extensive wine cellar, sourced mainly from our marvellous wine merchant, Tanners of Shrewsbury. But it would be a lie to tell you we are blessed with a plethora of local vineyards. (Well there are one or two actually).
The three bar areas range from a cosy wood panelled room, to the recently extended old public bar, which is light and airy. The bars also contain a selection of pub games such as Dominoes, Shut the Box, Darts and many others. This bar also leads onto a pretty paved terrace area (with water feature) that then leads up some steps to the fantastic beer garden.
Here you can settle down round the fish-pond and grapevines, with a cooling drink and some great value food, and scour the surrounding hills for invading Celts, just like the old Bishop Of Hereford, the first inhabitant of The Castle at Bishops Castle.
