The Castle Hotel in Bishops Castle, Shropshire, has eight delightful en-suite bedrooms, three bustling bars, a fine oak paneled restaurant and one of the finest hotel gardens in Shropshire. And all suffused with that elusive “I’ve got away from it all” feeling. In a quiet little edge-of-town square too, so no passing traffic!
The hotel was built by Lord Carnarvon in 1719 on the site of the Bishop of Hereford’s original castle, conveniently situated between Shrewsbury and Ludlow, and the hotel still occupies an enviable and elevated position at the top of Bishops Castle town. Clive of India, one of Shropshire‘s finest sons, was one of the first landlords of The Castle Hotel!
But we no longer stand sentinel to the invading Welsh hoards, but rather provide food, drink and accommodation, and the most wonderful vantage point to view the surrounding Shropshire hills. Preferably with a glass of real ale in hand and the promise of dinner in the air. For Bishops Castle is to the bon viveur what Las Vegas is to the gambler – a Mecca, an Everest, Nirvana, the summit of human achievement!
Why? Because we have fantastic local produce, great food, great chefs, half a dozen micro-breweries in and around the town, and even a few vineyards! Need we say more?
We are a Pet friendly hotel
We are graded as a “Four Star Inn”
